Maggie Wothe
Hi, My name is Maggie Wothe, I am the 23 year old daughter of Jay and Tammy Wothe. I proudly graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 2014 , and am a graduate of College of Saint Benedict with a bachelors in psychology with a criminal justice focus I created. I would like to get my masters in social work and start my own counseling business. I also have a dream to work for Special Olympics MN.
I have one sister, Amanda, and my French Bulldog, Frankie. I love to sing and play guitar, write my own music, dance, renovate homes, and to be outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature.
I am passionate about being involved in Special Olympics as a volunteer in so many ways. I have been involved in Special Olympics since I was in kindergarten because of my sister, Amanda Wothe, who was born with Down's syndrome. I first started out as a little cheerleader for our Special Olympics Area Team and was an errand runner. The day came when I was finally considered "old enough" to be a junior Special Olympics coach and have since became a level 1 coach for rhythmic gymnastics and bowling. I have volunteered for many Special Olympic events such as handing out awards to athletes, being involved in YAC (Special Olympics Minnesota Youth Activation Committee), boccie, bowling and where ever a volunteer is needed. I love dedicating my time and hard work to the inspirational and motivational athletes that are involved in this wonderful organization, Special Olympics. As a family, we were nominated, selected and then honored with the Distinguished Service Award for Special Olympic Minnesota's Family of the Year in 2012. We have been given this great honorable award for my family's volunteer services as a group and individually over the many years of volunteer and dedicated service to Special Olympics Minnesota. Since then I have been nominated as volunteer of the year and still striving to do more!
All the athletes I have ever encountered so far in my young life have shown me that you do not have to have
a gold metal or a blue ribbon, you are ALWAYS A WINNER. As the Special Olympics oath goes-"Let me win, but if I can not win, let me be brave in the attempt". Whenever I hear or think of that oath it makes me realize that if I work hard at something that I am truly passionate about I am already a winner for being "Brave in the Attempt"
